Mexican Dried Beef / Carne Seca #1

Ever want to cook Machacado, or any other recipe thats on this website that require dried beef but don't have the luxury of having a local market that provide this product? Well now, you can attempt at making dried beef in the comfort of your own home. The preparation of Dried Beef can be adjusted to create beef jerky, or to create the shredded dried beef that can be used in other dishes.


  1. 4 Cups of Carne De Res (Cow Meat / Beef) Deshebrada (Torn apart by hand)
  2. 1 Lime
  3. 2 Tablespoons Garlic Purée
  4. 1/4 Cup Olive/Vegetable Oil
  5. 1/3 Cup of Minced (cut up) Onion
  6. 1/2 Cup of Chile (Jalapeño or Serrano Pepper)
  7. Salt (or to taste)

How to Make

  1. Preheat oven to 325 Degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Combine lime juice, the two tablespoons of garlic purée
  3. On a cooking sheet put the meat and cover it with the lime juice / garlic
  4. Bake for 15 minutes (stir occasionally)
  5. Meat should get dry/stiff, if not cook for an extra couple minutes
  6. Your done, meat is now dried and can now be prepared in other dishes such as machacado.
  7. So store what you want or you can cook the dried meet by sautéing it with onions, hot peppers, eggs, etc.
